Martina Janáková was born in Liberec and graduated from the Central School of Applied Arts and Glass in Kamenický Šenov and the Faculty of Education of Charles University in Prague. She has taught at glass schools in Nový Bor and Kamenický Šenov, among others, while currently teaching the history of art culture and other professional subjects at the Academy in Světlá nad Sázavou. During her time at SUPŠS in Kamenický Šenov, Martina Janáková began to work in glass sculpture, in which she applies her modeling experience that is not inherent in working with ceramics. Martina Janáková's work is very personal and reflects life events as well as emotionally strong themes that appeal to her. She exhibits her works both here and abroad and has won several awards for them. She has also participated in workshops and symposia in the Czech Republic, Germany, China and Turkey. She and her husband František Janák realize their work within the framework of their joint study Vedva.
